Capital and country: the Federation Years 1900 - 1914

A National Gallery of Australia exhibition

On display at MAGNT until 29 September 2013

Well-known and loved works in the national collection by major Australian painters such as Tom Roberts, Arthur Streeton, Frederick McCubbin, George W. Lambert and Hans Heysen, are brought to light in new ways alongside lesser-known images by Florence Fuller, Godfrey Rivers, Elioth Gruner and Richard Hayley-Lever. Ranging from sunlit groves of gum trees that convey the Australian nation’s enthusiastic embrace of their own landscape, to sophisticated portraits and figure paintings painted in the bohemian enclaves of Paris and London, the works in Capital and country promise to surprise and delight.
